The States sits roughly once every three to four weeks excluding school holidays.

How long are sittings of the States?

Sittings of the States usually last up to three days, unless it is a Special Meeting in which case the sitting can last up to four days.

What is a 'Special Meeting'?

A 'Special Meeting' is a four day sitting of the States which is convened for the specific purpose of either; debating the States' Accounts and Government Work Plan, or the Uprating of Non-contributory Benefits and the Annual Budget.

Any sitting which is not classified as a 'Special Meeting' is considered an 'Ordinary Meeting'.
